Meet My Photographers

The best part about starting this blog, and the only thing that makes it possible for me, is that these two cuties are my little photographers!  My oldest two daughters, Lily 8 and Savannah 6, have been taking my pictures since we started this blog last year.  We had received a Canon Rebel for Christmas and I was trying to figure it out and of course the kids wanted to try it out too.  I thought it might be fun if we learned about photography together and I was also looking for a creative outlet for myself and a way to share the Skin Care products that I truly love, so then, this blog was born!

We, clearly, still don't really know exactly what we are doing, and basically just learning through trial and error.  I hope to sit down with the kids and watch some YouTube tutorials with them or maybe even take a class one day, but we will see if that ever happens!

I love having them take my pictures too because they crack me up.  My older daughter takes it pretty serious and is always trying to get good light and find good backdrops.  My younger one is always trying to catch me making a funny face, directing me to go a "little to the left" and then a "little to the right" just to make me move around like a crazy person and saying stuff like, "work it Mom and own it, Mom".  It's hard not to laugh at either of their photography styles and their teeny little legs poking out from behind the camera is just adorable.  It's also nice to have them as photographers because we don't have to stick to any kind of schedule.  Life with littles is so unpredictable, there is no way I could stick to a shoot at a specific time or location!  And it makes it so it doesn't really interfere with our day.  We basically just take pictures on our way out.  We only "shoot" during the week too so that our weekend family time is also not interrupted.  They were pretty excited to be "featured" here, so I interviewed them below!

Interview with Lillian (age 8)

Me:  When are you aren't taking pictures, what is your favorite thing to do?

Lily:  Hmmm . . . that's hard, I have a lot of things.  I like to play games, watch shows, go fishing, and I can't wait to go hunting when I am old enough!

Me:  If your Mom wasn't making you take pictures of her, what would you want to take pictures of?

Lily: Pretty plants and flowers, babies dressed as elephants, and nature.

Me:  If you could start a blog, what would be about?

Lily: Mother nature and babies dressed as animals . . . I hope no one steals this idea.

Me;  What do you think God wants you to be when you grow up?

Lily: A mermaid or a blacksmith.

Me:  What is your photography style?

Lily:  Trying to make sure the light is in the perfect spot and taking as many as I can so at least one will turn out well.

Interview with Savannah (age 6)

Me:  When are you aren't taking pictures, what is your favorite thing to do?

Savannah: Play.

Me:  If your Mom wasn't making you take pictures of her, what would you want to take pictures of?

Savannah: Nature because nature is pretty.  Also, either babies dressed as animals or animals dressed as babies.  Or both.

Me:  If you could start a blog, what would be about?

Savannah:  Fishing and Sports.

Me;  What do you think God wants you to be when you grow up?

Savannah: A nurse or a doctor.

Me:  What is your photography style?

Savannah:  Take pictures really fast so I can be done and at least one can turn out good.

If you made it this far in this post, thanks so much for reading!  My girls will get a kick out of it!

Have a great weekend!

Little Gray Dress- 3 ways

Hi ladies!  For my birthday last month, my mom and dad and my father-in-law both gave my gift certificates to LOFT.  It's kind of funny to me that everyone knows how much I love LOFT!  When I started browsing online, I knew I wanted to find a non maternity dress that was super versatile so when I saw this Lou & Grey dress was on sale - I added it to my bag immediately!  This dress is so comfortable and it basically goes with everything.  It was hard to pick only three ways to feature this dress.  I also plan on pairing it with a black moto jacket, a cognac leather jacket, a long beige cardigan, a denim jacket, a variety of scarfs or a white shirt tied at the waist.

For the second outfit, the red shoes were a bit of a splurge for me at just over $100, but I will be sharing my tips later on how I bought them for only $30!

I hadn't planned on photographing the last outfit since it really isn't anything out of the ordinary, but I really loved how the tennis shoes went with the dress and my feet were definitely thanking me too!  Outfit details below!!  Thanks for reading!!

Long Kimono

Hi everyone!  Here is a simple look I wore the other day out and about.  This kimono is long but super lightweight so it gives the perfect amount of coverage on a hot summer day.  I think this would look really cute over a white dress, a chambray dress, or shorts.  I only have two pairs of maternity shorts and I refuse to purchase anymore!  I also thought this might be cute as a beach cover up.

Again, I couldn't find this exact one online, but I like the American Eagle one linked below even more than this one!

Thanks for reading!!!

Embroidered Blouse

Hi ladies!  I purchased this top at Target a while back, when I was newly pregnant, in the hopes of it fitting throughout and after my pregnancy and so far it has not disappointed!  I love the embroidered and eyelet details and the baby doll fit is flattering to any body size.  I couldn't find the top online, but it may still be in stores (I haven't been there in awhile).  I linked some very similar tops below and some other great options at the end of this post.  I am really loving the Madewell top marked down to $30!  So cute!

Cold Shoulder

Hi ladies!!  I purchased this cold shoulder blouse (I got a medium for reference) from Nordstrom a couple of weeks ago when it went on sale, and I am so glad I did!  It's nice and breezy for those super hot days and can easily be dressed up with a long necklace, heels and skinny jeans or a skirt.  It is loose fitting in the waist (which makes it perfect for pregnancy), but will also lay nicely after the baby comes.  It is getting a tad short for my expanding belly, but I should be able to get a few more weeks out of it until the baby is born.

Speaking of Nordstrom, I am sure you guys have heard about the Anniversary Sale that started recently.  For card members, you can start shopping now, and then the sales are open to the public starting July 22.  To be honest, I have always avoided this sale because of a fear of spending too much, but after perusing last night I realized there are definitely some good deals to be had if you are in need some basics.  I linked some of my favorites at the bottom of this post!

As always all my picks are all under $100.

Thanks for reading!!!

Summer Layers

Hi ladies!  Even when it gets hot outside, adding an additional layer to your summer outfits can make your ensemble much more polished.  This airy, crochet vest is perfect for summer because it is lightweight, breathable and can go with dresses, shorts and skirts (as you can see here).  I even wore it with pants last fall here.  I linked a couple of very similar vests below.  I purchased mine last year from Target but I am not sure if it is still available.  This is also a great purchase because it can be worn before, during and after pregnancy!

For those of you who aren't expecting I rounded up some reasonably priced maxi skirts (all under $75) at the bottom of this post.  I chose skirts with unique prints that can be worn with a basic tee and a fun vest, jacket or cardigan.

Thanks so much for reading!!
